Founder Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis
Alfred Tomatis was a Medical Doctor (ENT) who devoted his life to studying the close relationship between the voice, the brain and the ear. His work has had a revolutionary impact on how an individual communicates with himself and others.
Born on January 1, 1920 and died in Carcassone on Christmas Day 2001, Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis founded the Tomatis® Method. Before that, he studied medicine and became an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor. Dr. Tomatis also grew up in a musical family. Combining his expertise and his passion for music, he developed the theory that many vocal problems were in reality hearing problems: “the voice does not produce what the ear does not hear.” The theory was thereafter named “Tomatis Effect,” which was made official in 1957 by the Academy of Science and Medicine in Paris.
